On Monday evening fire razed down houses in Mathare 4A Koria area. About 50 families have been rendered homeless; they have spent two nights bracing the cold.
While the cause of the fire remains a misery, fingers are pointed at politicians. Peter Lang’o, a renowned local humanitarian and ODM activist blamed the fire on the loose electric wires hanging all over the area. He said the community had written a petition stop the KPLC private contractor from continuing with the project, but it seems the area MP betrayed the community and had the project continue.
Some quarters are saying the fire may have been started for political reasons. They say a famous politician who has declared an interest in the Ruaraka Parliamentary seat is likely to use the situation of the victims to gain entry into the area.
Meanwhile, the wife of the area MCA Mrs. Elizabeth Ocholla took foodstuffs to the victims. Yesterday, Utalii hopeful Abel Atito also donated blankets to the victims. More politicians are expected today.
